Pending final approval from BC Parks and heavy lifting machinery availability, the Spearhead Huts Society is hoping to commence construction of the Kees and Claire Hut foundations this summer. We are actively building a strong team of skilled people and companies to bring this first hut to life.
This spring we hired Paul Ackerson of Caulus Consulting as the construction Project Manager to oversee the procurement and delivery of all the materials and services for the construction of the hut. Paul has extensive experience managing large commercial and institutional projects and will be a valuable asset to the project. Paul is also a builder himself with plenty of hands-on know-how that will no doubt be advantageous during this unique alpine construction project.
Reid Madiuk and Trevor MacDonald of Coast Essential Construction will serve as Site Supervisors to manage the day-to-day tasks and site safety. The team has great experience with high-end residential construction with a specialty in concrete construction.
Whistler local and electrical engineer, Rhonda Netzel, is volunteering as our Staging Area Manager. Rhonda was recently briefed and cleared by Whistler Blackcomb to drive deliveries up the mountain to our staging area closer to the hut site. Rhonda will be preparing all the helicopter net and long-line loads for efficient transport of materials.
Brian Liu has stepped up as our new Volunteer Coordinator. Brian will be leading the important task of filling all the work shifts and supporting the volunteers throughout the busy summer build schedule.
Bennett Land Surveys has been working as the professional land surveyors for the project.
We are still constantly gathering expertise, with many new professional team members recently joining the project:
Miranda Lewis and Gerrit Velema at Triton Environmental in Vancouver have just written the Environmental Monitoring Plan and will come on site to review our mitigation methods.
Harrison Mak of JECTH Consultants in Burnaby will be providing geotechnical assessment of the site soil conditions and advising on the final foundation design.
North Construction’s Kevin Webb and Joel Markson are preparing their excavator to tackle the sitework.
Matheo Durfeld of BC Passive House in Pemberton has been engaged to engineer and construct the framing package complete with floor, wall and roof panels.
We look forward to working with this team while breaking ground on this ambitious project.
