Summer 2018 Volunteer Opportunities

We are gearing up for another busy construction season for the Kees and Claire Hut at Russet Lake. The work schedule is now online and we hope to see you all this spring and summer.

Check out the dates and tasks that interest you, and please come on up to the site to help out. Better yet, bring a friend.

Everyone who visited the site in 2017 found it a rewarding experience, and we’ll need even more of you this season for an even wider range of tasks.

Our committee is busy completing design work, getting quotes, placing orders and preparing schedules. The camp will begin around June 1 and last into September. Shift rotations will run from Mon morning to Friday morning, then Friday morning to Monday morning.

Many people will fly in and out from the Whistler Heliport; while some will walk in over the Musical Bumps. We’ll have complimentary gondola tickets, thanks to Whistler Blackcomb.

Like last year a camp will be set up again on the snow with tents, toilet and kitchen. Volunteers just need to bring their sleeping bag and clothes, energy and enthusiasm. Check out the schedule and contact our volunteer coordinator, Brian Liu.

April & May at BC Passive House Plant

Seeking Volunteer Carpenters

Are you a skilled carpenter, with experience comparable to a 3rd year apprentice or better?

We’re looking for carpenters for April/May to help prefabricate the hut floor/wall/roof panels. That entails volunteering 4-5 consecutive days in April or May at the BC Passive House plant – an award-winning state-of-the-art facility in Pemberton.

This is a perfect way to help, if you don’t have time to go to the site. Contact Reid Madiuk.

Late May Ski Trips to Russet Lake

Starting May 18 for the Victoria Day long weekend, teams of skiers are heading into the hut site to shovel snow out of the foundations.

The sooner we get the snow out, the sooner we can start building.

See the trip dates and contact us for more information.

Can You Help Find Volunteers?

We’re going to need lots of help! Please spread the word to your outdoor friends, especially those with construction experience.

If you have ideas or connections that would help us reach the construction industry, university or college students, outdoor club members, and more, please let us know!
